The Campaign
The aim of the Drop the Rate campaign is simple. We want to stop the rip off, and give Kiwis a fair go. We want the Government to change the rules and drop mobile termination rates.
For Kiwi consumers, this will mean:
- Fairer prices for mobile calls
- Freedom of mobile phone use
- Greater competition in the New Zealand mobile phone market
Drop the Rate’s original members include:
- Airnet
- Consumer NZ
- Federated Farmers
- Federation of Maori Authorities (FoMA)
- New Zealand Union of Students’ Associations (NZUSA)
- Telecommunications Users Association of New Zealand (TUANZ)
- 2degrees
- Unite
But the campaign is owned by the thousands of New Zealanders who are sick and tired of being bullied by their mobile phone providers, and sick and tired of paying some of the highest mobile phone calling prices in the world.
One of the Commerce Commissioners agrees with us, while two have suddenly decided to side with the big telcos. Now, the Government has to decide if the rules should be changed to bring termination rates down.
